Dutch drug discovery boosted by new Assay Development Fund
European Lead Factory (ELF) partner, Pivot Park Screening Centre (PPSC), has announced the launch of a new Assay Development Fund that aims to give Dutch scientists a major boost – helping them achieve new scientific breakthroughs and create a more competitive drug discovery landscape.
Through the new fund, assay development support will be provided by PPSC to scientists in the Netherlands that work with a charity or foundation on an early drug discovery project for screening at the ELF.
This move by PPSC is linked to the ELF Charity Funded Screening programme, launched last year. It will see Dutch academics and SMEs who work with charities and foundations partnering with the ELF gain access to the high-quality ELF library of over 500,000 chemical compounds.
Jon de Vlieger, Coordinator of the ELF and Strategy Director at Lygature comments: “It’s great to see the Dutch Government supporting this activity. We’ve seen a similar initiative in Scotland, delivering very high-quality drug discovery projects for the ELF to work on. With a relatively modest investment, exciting biological discoveries were developed into assays ready for ultra-High Throughput Screening, delivering promising starting points for therapy development. I’m looking forward to seeing a similar impact from the PPSC initiative on the drug discovery community in the Netherlands.”
