Publication: IMI European Lead Factory - democratizing access to high-throughput screening (Nature Reviews Drug Discovery)
In a recent Comment in Nature Reviews Drug Discovery, members of the ELF illustrate the unique ELF concept, share progress and provide an insight into future directions.
The article highlights some of the successes achieved so far for academic, SMEs and pharmaceutical partners that have made use of the ELF initiative. In addition to the publication of >100 scientific articles, clear successes were reported in the discovery of potential new treatments in the field of cancer, antimicrobial resistance, metabolic diseases and neurodegenerative diseases.
Looking to the future, the authors describe how small molecules remain important in the drug discovery field, and how a public-private partnership such as ELF can bring value to industry, academia, charities, and other initiatives.
